Ninja Tunes podcast influential tracks - Wagon Christ

Each episode of the Ninja Tunes podcast has a section on an artist's 5 picks of influential tracks, and I'm going to do my darndest to link full versions of these songs here for posterity and potential interest.

I just happen to be listening to the podcast featuring Wagon Christ at the moment, so here are his 5 picks:

  1. Herbie Hancock - Chamelion

  2. Adam and the Ants - Car Trouble part 1

  3. Prince - Something in the Water Does Not Compute

  4. Art of Noise - In the Army Now

  5. Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five - The Message

More new vinyl

I've ignored posting about a few releases that I've picked up recently, got a big load from Ninja Tune again, including

Bonobo - Black Sands
Toddla T - Watch Me Dance
Funki Porcini - Fast Asleep
Lorn - Nothing Else
Mono/Poly - Manifestations EP
Spank Rock - YoYoYoYoYoYo

And some other stuff:

KMD - Mr Hood
Dir En Grey - Dum Spiro Spero (my first copy had 2x disc 2, so now I have 1 and 2 half copies, hah!)
The Rapture - In The Grace of Your Love
and, ashamedly, Lady Gaga - The Fame Monster

In addition, I've given my setup a little bit more vinyl loving, in the form of a Technics SL1200mk2 :) Bit of an upgrade from the old (literally) Garrard SP25. The 1200's serial number even puts it in the same birth month as me, so it's exactly either 10 or 20 years younger than me :) Here's a pic of it alongside its buddies, the NAD C320BEE and NAD PP-2, and the unloved cousin in the NAD C520 CDP

I've also tried to get back into music making, but more about that in a later post :)

Yelle!

Got back to work after a mini-holiday to find some packages on my desk! More vinyl, of course! What else would they be?

Yelle - Safari Disco Club
Very fun French electro-dance-pop kind of stuff. Their second album - and it even came on translucent yellow vinyl _b

The Hundred in the Hands - The Hundred in the Hands
"New wave" electro-pop debut LP on the Warp label.

Yes, I like electropop. Quite a lot.

Additionally, I received the replacement copy of Depeche Mode - Sounds of the Universe from Insound, this time with the promised CD attached (they checked especially :D). Bonus: I don't have to send the other set back!

Insound vinyl order

Nice, #1 of 3 vinyl orders came through today, this was the big one from http://www.insound.com/ . Shipping cost was nuts, but the order was processed on the 23rd and got here today on the 26th!

Here's the haul:

Annoyingly, the MP3 code for Four Tet was linked to a completely different release, and the Depeche Mode didn't come with the CD it says is packaged with! Neither of these are problems due to Insound though, just with the manufacturers themselves. Both will be followed up :P

Warehouse haul

Today's Warehouse haul:
  • Hot Chip - One Life Stand
  • Prince - Sign O' The Times (2cd)
  • Seal - Seal (II)

For $11 all up. Tried to get the Australian version of Coldplay - Viva la Vida (with Prospekt's March bonus cd) for Julia, but they couldn't find the cds :/

More pickups

Last week's CDs:

  • Trinity Roots - Trinity Roots EP
  • Interpol - Turn on the Bright Lights
  • Beck - Odelay
  • Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot

For roughly $4 each from The Warehouse (I love the 50% off clearance-item sales!)

Also nearly picked up Chemical Brothers - Come With Us and and advance copy of Weezer - Pinkerton from the Salvation Army, but the Chemical Bros didn't actually have the CD in the case, and I don't actually like Weezer that much, lol.

Got a whole ton of vinyl winging my way though, I love the weak American dollar, hah hah! Not such a fan of the shipping costs though :/

Ninja Tune (+UMO) order

Today's vinyl haul:

Roots Manuva meets Wrongtom - Duppy Writer (+ tshirt!)

Wagon Christ - Toomorrow

Ninja Tunes XX 12"s #3, #4, #5 & #6

Unknown Mortal Orchestra - Unknown Mortal Orchestra

Ninja Tunes shipping is fantastic! Extremely well priced AND fast. Better than buying stuff from the States even!
